CANADA TYPE SPECIMENS

BY PATRICK GRIFFIN

Totemic

Jim Rimmer’s first typeface, Totemic, was originally published in 1970 through a small independent type house, but it demonstrates some of the unique themes and characteristics that Rimmer fleshed out in subsequent faces over the course of his career. Totemic also contains ‘a very unique and unprecedented feature: Variably stackable totem poles.’

Totemic contains:

  • small caps
  • automatic fractions
  • standard ligatures
  • stylistic alternates
  • 6 kinds of figures
  • case-sensitive forms
  • extended Latin language support
  • variably stackable totem poles
